Every year my son has to have one of those kits to make a gingerbread house, they are always a pain and never taste good. We saw this rice krispy house and decided to give it a try. Afterall, we are big fans of rice krispy treats in our house!
Ingredients:
- rice krispy cereal
- coco krisp cereal or cocoa powder
- marshmallows
- butter
- different red & green candies
- candy canes/ peppermints
- pretzel sticks
- white icing
You don't need all the candies, decorate as you see fit.
- Step 1: Make the rice krispy treats according to package, only do half the amount.
- Step 2: Once the cereal and marshmallows are stirred together, press firmly and shape into 2 triangles for the walls and 2 small rectangles.
- Step 3: Places pieces in fridge to cool
- Step 4: Either make rice krispy treats out of coco cereal or make regular rice krispy treats and add coco powder and stir together
- Step 5: Press firmly and shape 2 large squares for the roof and a small rectangle for the door.
- Step 6: Place in fridge to cool. Take out the first treats, using icing connect the small rectangles to the walls to make a house and hold about a minute til icing hardens
- Step 7: Add icing to the roof pieces and hold in place til hard
- Step 8: Add icing to attach the door.
- Step 9: Add icing to attach candy as you choose.
- Step 10: With the extra rice krispy treats you can shape fun things like reindeer, snowmen, presents, etc. You can use pretzel sticks for arms and legs, etc. Just be sure to do it before the treats harden.
- Step 11: Enjoy!
