Bake for the Family Fun Month – Kids in the Kitchen from Gooseberry Patch & Jam Surprise Muffin Recipe

Gooseberry Patch Kids in the Kitchen

Little did I know that February is Bake for Family Fun Month, well you know we support baking with the family as we have our own Kids Kitchen! But as February is coming to an end, you should at least get in the kitchen with your children and have some Family Fun! Gooseberry Patch offered this great recipe from their Kids in the Kitchen book, Jam Surprise Muffins!

Jam Surprise Muffins
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • non-stick vegetable spray
  • 1/2 cup favorite-flavor jam

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Blend in butter with a fork or a pastry cutter until mixture is crumbly. Form a well in the center. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg and milk; pour into the well in the bowl of dry ingredients. Stir until ingredients are just moistened, about 25 strokes. Batter will be lumpy. Spray a 12-cup muffin tin with non-stick vegetable spray and lightly dust with flour, or use paper liners. Fill muffin cups about 1/3 full of batter. Spoon one tablespoon jam on top of batter; top with enough batter to fill muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake at 425 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

Tip: Use the toothpick test to see if your muffins are finished baking!

After 20 minutes, remove muffin tin from oven. Insert a toothpick into the center of a muffin. If the toothpick comes out clean, or with only a few crumbs clinging to it, the muffins are finished baking. If there is uncooked batter or many damp crumbs on the toothpick, return the muffins to the oven and bake for a few minutes longer.

Judah’s Birthday Party + Chef Boyardee Party = Lots of Fun!

The Chef Boyardee “Be the Chef” House Party just happened to be on Judah’s Birthday! So we kind of intermixed it and served Chef Boyardee for dinner that happened to be after cake since Judah refused to do anything once the cake arrived. He kept saying, “Fire Engine Cake, Fire Engine Cake!” But afterwards we made plates of yummy Ravioli for the kids with little bites of Nectarines. I didn’t dress up the Ravioli for the little ones since I know some of them are really picky eaters, but they loved their Chef Boyardee Ravioli!

Judah’s Birthday was a lot of fun. I picked up these beautiful party balloon bunches that could be tossed around from It’s Party Time in town. I am still trying to figure out how they tied all of those together!

You can kind of see the Balloons Bunches!

Before the destruction of our house above, we had a wonderful cake that Gramma Jan made. She’s an amazing cake decorator and does our cakes every year! They are SO GOOD.

I had made up little packs for the kids with candies fit for little ones and each got to bring home bubbles and a balloon bunch to play with. The Mommies all got coupons for Chef Boyardee, which they were quite happy about! We did get around to trying out the Ravioli Lasagna and I must say that I am completely surprised, I actually think our little picky eater would love it! It tastes just like his favorite foods just whipped up with a new touch which you can make a whole family dinner with. Yum!

Here are a few other fun pictures from Judah’s Birthday Party!

Everyone.

Thanks to Chef Boyardee & House Party for the fun Party Pack! We had gotten a Chef Boyardee Hat (Which Gabe will be using in an upcoming Kids Kitchen!), a Lunch Cooler that I use for my husband’s work meals and product coupons to supply the Ravioli dinners for our party and also for all the Mommies! Mommies deserve little take-home bags too!

More than anything I want to thank my family for coming and sharing Judah’s birthday with us. I’ve never seen Judah so happy to play with other kids and I got teared up a lot seeing him so happy. I love you.

I was given a Party Pack from House Party to Review the new Chef Boyardee Recipes. My opinions are my own or my families and are not influenced by any form of compensation.
